Spring Break Spectacular: Sounds of the Community- March 12-16
The kids will be on break, and you’ll need somewhere to take them (and you) to have fun, and secretly keep their minds learning! Join us for a whole week filled with science, experiments, crafts, demos and activities- fun for the whole family. Each day will feature different activities, so come every day for something new!
Monday 3/12: Sounds of Nature
1:00–3:00 – Meet and learn about some of nature’s animal ambassadors and the noises they make from Lone Star Scales & Tails and the Wildwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center!
1:00–4:00 – The Amarillo Humane Society will be joining us to educate the community on animal care and adoption. You’ll be able to meet, pet and hear the animals.
Tuesday 3/13: Sounds of Music
Join Tarpley’s Instruments for a day of music education. You’ll have the opportunity to try out and play different instruments too!
10:00-12:00- Enjoy the classical rhythms of the Amarillo Symphony.
10:00– 12:00- Virtual Reality Music Jam Studio. Are you the next big ROCK STAR?! This VR program lets you play drums, guitars, and other instruments and you’ll feel like you’re really on stage in front of your fans.
1:00-3:00- Make beautiful music in the STOMP Room and jam out with recycled materials. Find music with everyday items such as trash cans, pipes and springs.
Wednesday 3/14: Pi Day
1:00 -4:30 pm- We’re celebrating the number Pi=3.1415926 on 3/14. Plus it’s Einstein’s birthday so the DHDC staff will be serving FREE* pie starting at 1:59 pm. *while supplies last.
1:00 pm- Are you the biggest fan of all kinds of pie?! Go for the Gold in our annual Pi Day pie-eating contest!
10:00am-12:00pm- Make your own instrument with a fun take-home craft!
Thursday 3/15: Sounds of the Body
11:30-3:00 – Come and help out those in need by donating the gift of life with Coffee Memorial Blood Center. Eligible donors will receive a free T-shirt.
2:00-3:30- What sounds do you hear from the bodies of creatures? Find out with a live animal display courtesy of Fish Pros.
Friday 3/16: Sounds of Rescue
11:00-1:00- Get up close and personal with the Lifestar Helicopter. The propellers themselves put out an incredible sound.
1:00-4:00 – Discover how sounds of an AMR Ambulance & AMS Therapy Dog can help us when we’re in trouble.
1:00-4:00- The Amarillo Police Deportment will let you test the sounds of the sirens on a Police Car.
1:00-4:00- Learn about safety and smoke alarms and how to get out of danger with the Kid Safety Fire House from the Amarillo Fire Department.
All Spring Break activities are included in admission price. Adults are $11, Children (2-12) are $8, and Students (13-20), Military (with I.D.), and Seniors are $8.
Plus enjoy the Space Theater, with a different show playing every hour! All exhibits will be open, including our Spring traveling exhibit, Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life.
This is NOT a camp or drop-off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
